Lesson 1 (A review of educational technology 1)

The organization of this course on educational technology 1 is based on the broad meaning of educational technology. It refers to the use of all human inventions and discoveries to satisfy the educational needs and desires of the learners. Educational technology 1 fittingly refined concepts that learners can make their own ideas and formulate concepts.
In general, Educational technology 1 serve as the advancement of learning that the learners are imparting their skills in planning, designing and evaluating the technology.

~PADUA~
Reflection:

As a student, educational technology 1 has truly showed how important the educational tools from traditional to modern media. It’s a big help for me because I had been using such power point presentation when it comes in reporting. I am glad to share my knowledge in educational technology.

Lesson 2 (An overview: Educational technology 2)

Educational technology 2 is focus on introducing, strengthen, adding and extending the understanding and skills to learners. Also the professional teachers are using the educational tools which are the best for the students to learn and they might wish to share their knowledge what is educational technology is all about. This course involves hands on application of computers skills.

In addition, in general this course aims to inculcate technology to help students- teachers to meet and adapt the technological changes particularly in the ICT environment. This served as refreshing and exciting that all learning should be fun.
~PADUA~
Reflection:

When I enrolled this subject I feel something that educational technological is the same with technology 1 but when I read the overview ET-2 it is more exciting and refreshing for me to learn and having fun in this subject. I can say that this course is intended for the use student especially to me because it is more hands on application which could be the integrating technology into teaching- learning process that will apply in daily lives.

Lesson 3 (Understanding technology learners)

Today’s generation, the learners appearing smarter because they are now involve through computer class and also the learners are now called digital learners. There is some concern for the new learners that when they are using technology there would be a positive or negative effects of using it.
Jean Piaget presented a chart that speaks about from childhood where in different ages, they can learn from concrete to abstract thinking and reasoning. It is important to new learners to meet the feared under development along to the social face to face interactions skills. True to say that is balance needed the cures changes among this computer age.
~PADUA~
Reflection:

As a student I can say that today’s generation the learners are involved in computers skills because some learners feel that the traditional media is boring to them but I guess from time to time the traditional media is always applicable. A psychologist Jean Piaget on his traditional chart must be redefined thus as I relate myself from childhood to adulthood that is procedural in learning. Nowadays at the age of five above are expose in technology and playing video games hence, we are in the world of technology.

Lesson 4 (Bridging the generation Gap)

In the traditional world, some old things are difficult to overcome and has hardly changed to a modern world. The generation gap also exist because there are countries where schools don’t have technology facilities and there is need to prepare in overcoming to understand of what is the importance the technology is. Some old technologies are now vanishing today because there are many advance technology that is invented. The learners must be taught in schools on how to manipulate technology in teaching- learning process.

~PADUA~
Reflection:

I am interested to read this lesson because it speaks about the generation gap between old and new generation. There is a big difference between the two; the institution using the traditional approach in teaching technology produces poor results. However the modern one gives best results. It is imperative that certain institution will provide quality teachers to hasten the capabilities and interest of the students in modern technology.

Lesson 5 (Preferences of the technology generation)

Our generation today is far from the old generation by means of life, work and leisure. Sad to say, much of the good things enjoyed by elders like gardening classes are no longer available to the new generation and some of the vocational, cultural and values classes are also minimized due to emphasis on the major subjects like English, Mathematics and Science. In this lesson, we gave importance on the critical differences between old and young which create a generation gap. In most cases, life has been comfortably slower for oldies. Nevertheless, new generation was exposed to quick flicking video games, mobile phone texting, socializing through the web sites and downloading. Furthermore, the lesson has six main areas of concern on the discussion namely: Texts versus visuals, Linear versus hyper media, independent versus social learner, learning to do versus learning to pass the test, delayed rewards and instant gratification and rote memory versus fun learning.
~MANTICA~
Reaction:

As we are in these modern times, we, as a future teacher should make something new and something different in the teaching and learning process. What I mean is the kind of strategy that we should incorporate to the learner so that they will always be interactive in responding to learning. Traditional way of teaching can sometimes be a burden for those learners who embraced the advanced technological system. In addition, they feel lazy enough in dealing with those teachers who are still practicing the traditional method. However, traditional method is good but if we stick with only one method, there is no learning progress. Modern teaching is a product of technology and since we are together with the modern times, we are obliged to be aware of all the things that are related to technology.

Lesson 6 (Developing basic digital skills)

Teachers in the modern times are rapidly improving particularly on their way of teaching to match the new digital world of information and communication technology (ICT). In developing a digital learner, it must be clear to them on what basic knowledge, skills and values which need to be developed. These basic literacies will not replace the 3 R’s (reading, writing, arithmetic) instead they will complemented by six essential skills namely: Solution fluency that focuses on to learners capacity and creativity in problem solving, Information fluency that involves the ability to access information, retrieve and reflect on the information, Collaboration fluency that talks about teamwork, Media fluency in communication, Creativity fluency in artistic proficiency and Digital ethics that states about the different principles of leadership, global responsibility and citizenship, environmental awareness and personal accountability.
~MANTICA~
Reaction:

The new curriculum in this generation should give more emphasis particularly on the essence of technology. As what we observe nowadays, there were those learners who misinterpreted technology in a way that they tend to used it not in a proper way like watching pornographic videos or pictures not appropriate with their age. Hence, the teacher should be particular on the behavior of the learners. In connection with, they should make some twist particularly on giving lessons to the students that would catch their attention and helps prevent unnecessary actions in relation to the use of technology. Therefore, technology is a boon if we use it properly and sometimes it’s a bane if we use it in an improper way.

Lesson 7 (Evaluation of technology learning)

In this lesson, our focus is on assessment and evaluation in connection with technology as the main point of advancement. In line with, the new generation changed into digital learners together with the traditional world that has metamorphosed into a digital world. In addition, assessment needs to conform, not to the literacy of the past century but the new literacy of the 21st century. It is a literacy that uses digital tools. On the other hand, teachers must adopt a new mind set both for instruction and evaluation. Evaluation must be geared to assessment of essential knowledge and skills together with the new basic skills of the 21st century digital culture as discussed in the previous lesson. Included in the topic is the so called Mass amateurization, a kind of evaluation approach which implies a mass reach of student outputs. Relevance and engagement shall be carried both in the learning process, as well as in the evaluation schemes of new digital expressions in learning.
~MANTICA~
Reaction:

Assessment and evaluation are the two main important tools in the teaching and learning process. We need to assess the knowledge of the learners and we need to evaluate them whether they understand the lessons or not with the help of those digital tools. Since we are in the 21st century, we are responsible to offer to them the learning’s which are based on what they had experience together with technology. However, it is important also that before we evaluate our learners, we must have to make sure that our assessment tools have the relevance to the topic and the engagement of the lesson are strong enough to be called as a progressive learning process. Therefore, we should be sensitive enough in choosing the best topic that would suits to the comprehension of our learners.

Lesson 8 (Higher thinking skills through IT-based projects)

Reflective study became the student’s pleasurable and most profitable activity in the sense that it enhances the learners’ critical thinking and higher level of understandings. In this lesson, we shall discuss four types of IT-based projects which can effectively be used in order to engage students in activity of a higher plane of thinking. Furthermore, these projects represent constructivist projects, containing the key elements of a constructivist approach to instruction, namely: the teacher creating the learning environment, giving students the tools and facilities and facilitates the learning process. On the other hand, it is the students who incorporate higher thinking skills implementation and creativity. In addition, Resource-based projects, Simple creations, Guided hypermedia projects and web-based projects are the four types of IT-based projects which are conducive to develop higher thinking skills and creativity among learners. Thus, information technology is very important particularly among learners in order for them to develop higher thinking skills and creativity.
~MANTICA~
Reaction:

Technology in this modernization is very necessary in the sense that we commonly use this for communication and information. Incorporating technology to learners is much in need nowadays since all the resources of knowledge are connected to technology aside from books but with the internet access we can directly find different relevant information if we are a keen observer and a reader. However, as what we had observe nowadays, most of the teachers in far areas in our country preferred to use traditional rather than modern method or they’ve preferred to use lecture method without letting their student to discover their own learning with the aid of technology. As a future teacher, we are authorized to let our students to explore their own learning and on discovering how they acquire knowledge about a certain thing. We must serve as their facilitator upon reaching the necessary learning outcomes.

Lesson 9 (Computers as Information and Communication Technology)

The education world is evolving especially in advancement this can clearly be seen in the history of educational technology. The first advancement was the invention of printing press; second is the introduction of libraries and third is the invention of computer. And soon computer-assisted instruction will be introduced.

These phenomena are the door to new, wide and advance learning. These are that the good evidence that the decade in education will evolve into an information and communication technology of 21st century, computer technology (ICT) for education. The invention of microprocessor of commonly called as personal computer (PC) has many capabilities to help the teacher employ the learning process through enhanced presentation of the lessons that allow the learning become an interactive way.
~SAHIRON~
Reflection:

This is a good phenomenon in the world of education because this really helps the educator to enhance their presentation for the student to understand it easily. These might also lead to a more advance learning and interactive process.

Lesson 10 (The Computers as a tutor)

Computer is one of the greatest inventions of the new generation. It can help us find easily what we need. It is a tool to program instruction in an interactive way. Especially in education, it helps the teacher enhance the learning process by making creative presentation and advance information.

Computer can also be a tutor in such a way that it helps the teacher to aid the problems of the learners in terms of difficulties of the lesson but it cannot totally replace the role the teacher because the major role of the teacher is to deliver the information and the controller of learning environment. But teacher could use the CAI to integrate the lessons by giving the students a drill and activity to practice their basic skill and knowledge. Simulation program could also help, teacher use it a strategy to apply the lesson in real life situation. Another is the instructional games, problem solving software, multimedia encyclopedia electronic books.
~SAHIRON~

Reflection:

Computer helps the teacher to provide learning out of his/her responsibilities. It could be a tutor when the teacher wants to impose discovery or constructivist approach. It also provides or develops higher thinking skills in which it helps the student to generate their discussion making.

Lesson 11 (The Computer as the teacher’s Tool)

In the past lesson we saw the computer as a tutor but in this lesson we look at it as a teacher’s tool.

As the teacher use the computer as an appropriate tool to create a higher and creative mind, it will also build or support the constructivist and social constructivist paradigms of learning. These are because of the computers capabilities in which it provides information, foster creative social knowledge, and building and enhance the communication of the people.
Teacher may use the computer as an information tool that provide wide and vast amount of information in a various form like text, graphics and video. It can also be a communication tool where it can serve as the medium or channel for communication. Furthermore, it can also be a constructive tool in which the computer itself can be used to manipulate information. It can also become an co-constructive tool that allows the student to work cooperatively and construct a shared knowledge. And the last is it can be a situating tool by means of virtual reality (AS) extension system that gives a 3-D image in which we can see a picture that looks like living in a real environment.
~SAHIRON~
Reflection:

A tool for education is the computer. Teachers might need an advance equipment to help them facilitate and provide information for the student. It can also promote some strategies were teachers can use it to think the appropriate technique for the learners.

Lesson 12 (Information Technology in Support of Student-Centered Learning)

As we look the traditional classroom, the teacher is the center of learning process in which he/she is the only the one who provide knowledge and information while the students are the listener or receiver all the time, that there is no interaction at all. This may lead the student to boredom and the worst is an unabsorption of knowledge.

But in the modern era in which technology advancement was introduced in education, the student-centered learning classroom was discovered. The students are now the prime over of the learning process. They are the one who construct and discover new knowledge while the teacher is the facilitator that helps the learning process organized and continuous. In addition, information technology help the teacher facilitate the SCL because it helps provide some interactive strategies and activities that allow the students to learn independently.
~SAHIRON~
Reflection:

As the technology was more advance the traditional strategy of teaching is slowly obsolete but not totally. I can say this is because before the process of learning is centered to teachers only and no interaction at all while as the modern day coming ahead the SCL is introduce in which it is more appropriate and student centered learning that fits to students to easily cope up the subject and lesson and promotes interaction.

Lesson 13 (Cooperative learning with the computer)

The ideal ratio of pupil-computer in other progressive countries is 1:1 but, in reality we don’t have enough computers to be used especially in public or government. In addition, teachers believed that there must be way. They found that creativity will respond in this situation and they come up with an idea of cooperative and collaborative learning wherein students are group to perform common learning task: the common goal, interdependence, interaction, individual accountability and social skills. Hence, cooperative learning is a good idea to address the problem while enhancing the students’ personal and social development.
~LARROZA~
Reflection:

Cooperative learning enhances social development making the learner to be more creative expressing ideas of their own and relate to others. The learner becomes competitive and creates social constructivism wherein they share and learn more ideas.

Lesson 14 (The software an educational resource)

When we think about computers we may refer this as a machine, television, monitor and keyboard. However, the things listed above are the hardware of the computer which is hardly useful without the program or system it is called software the two kinds of software are system software and application software. System software is the operating system that bonded inside the computer while application software contains the system that commands the particular task solve problem the examples are custom software and commercial software. On the other hand, microsoft windows is an operating environment between the use of computer operating system. Similarly, instructional software are visited on the internet or brought from software shops.
~LARROZA~
Reflection:

Everything we use to operate inside the monitor is software and it is important to the user. However, both components are complement to one another.

Lesson 15 (Understanding hypermedia)

Hypermedia is nothing but multimedia, but this was use as educational computers software wherein information is presented to the student and their activities are associated by virtual learning. There are characteristics of hypermedia applications namely: learner control which learner itself will make his/her own decision on the flow of instruction, learner wide range of navigation routes wherein the learner has an option to repeat and change speed as he/she desired, variety of media that includes more than one media. However, capabilities of hypermedia do not replace life’s experiences and learning from nature of life.
~LARROZA~
Reflection:

Hypermedia is useful to the teachers because it gets the learners attention on listening. Similarly, it makes the learner recall the learning because it is virtual that provide learning feedback.

Lesson 16 (The internet and education)

Internet is also called net. Net is the largest and far-flung network system of all system. Internet is not really a network a network but loosely organized collection of about 25,000 networks accessed by computers on the planet. No one’s own the internet; there are no central headquarters, no centrally offered services, and no comprehensive online index. However this is done through a standardized protocol called transmission control protocol/internet protocol. The most attractive way to move around the internet is called browsing or a program called Brower that uses mouse to point and click on screen icons to surf in the internet. Therefore, the use of internet has been all around the world and it has educational use as via email such as pen pals in US that indicates studies and question of a certain country. Internet gives connection to the world outside and advantages to access information.
~LARROZA~
Reflection:

Internet is used every day, it makes us connected to the world outside, even in education we use internet to access in different form of information that provides us the knowledge that answer our questions.

Lesson 17 (Educational technology 2 practicum)

Student-centered learning in reaching technology to education is the main concern of the trainee teachers and the professionals as well in educational technology 2 which offers learners the experiential process of adapting to technology integration. In this lesson, practicum phase was also discussed which consists of hands-on computer tutorials through which the student teacher or professional teacher-trainee will need to make the learner to be capable. Furthermore, computer laboratory, participation of computer lab tutor and assigned number of hours in conformity with the course requirement are some of the essential requirements for the ET 2 practicum phase. In addition, there’s a time limit for the practicum phase when it comes to the basic Microsoft word for 6 hours, the Microsoft power point for 6 hours again and the internet as tool of inquiry for 4 hours tutorial. In sum, Educational Technology 2 promises to bring student teacher and the professional teacher trainee to the challenge of a new age and that is to integrate technology in the teaching-learning process. Therefore, ET 2 is the stand point wherein teachers can move ahead with their use of technology in the classroom.
~MANTICA~
Reaction:

Being an educator is not an easy task since your student depends on your knowledge about a certain topic. Educators are the producers of knowledge while learners are the consumers of that knowledge to achieve a necessary learning outcome. Nowadays, we observed that most learners are eager and curious about learning something and because we are now in these modern times, we must have to link students to technological advancement. Educators are the authorized person to make an innovation to learners and that is to start the modern methods of teaching with the technology as an equipment to acquire knowledge. Thus, teachers should go with the modern and let go of the traditional method.

Lesson 18 (Tablets for Textbooks in Schools)

Today, books are still the primary medium of instruction in most schools. Already, there is a disadvantage of using books for learning that are being debated upon. The errors in public school textbooks have also been exposed, errors resulting from wrong information, technical mistakes and editorial lapses.

Today, technology is being viewed as a savior because the students are enamoured by computer games. By that, the educators have begun to think that the computer screen can very well serve as a power point educational medium.

In general, tablets as a primary learning tool can be replacing the textbooks. Tablets are conducive to higher thinking, constructive and participative teaching-and-learning. By that, parents gave full support to the IT advancement. Technology itself may be a key to problem resolution and Filipino ingenuity is called to respond to the challenge facing the digital generation of the millennium.
~PADUA~
Reflection:

For me, yes it can be replace the textbooks to tablets because during my high school years, carrying heavy books in the school is burdensome for me. Thanks to IT because it developed software which entail for us to be trained by the teachers in preparing interactive discussion. Tablets for school may be difficult but the books have more durability compared with electronic gadgets due to handling, energy charging, and heat and most lastly, technology is being viewed as our savior.
